I am a recent graduate of Hack Upstate’s Careers in Code Bootcamp in Syracuse NY, where I learned full stack web development. This started me on what I envision as a career of continuous learning. I am currently learning Python and Django on my own and participating in a Data Basics course.

I am ready for a more interesting and challenging career that uses my new skills and allows me to apply my problem-solving abilities on interesting projects. My long-term goal is a career that combines my background in linguistics with coding knowledge, such as working on machine translation systems, speech recognition and speech synthesis systems, semantic search systems, or computer aided language learning systems. To that end I am interested in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning.

I was introduced to the Hudson Valley tech community through participation in the virtual HVTechFest 2021. I am looking forward to the upcoming Data Visualization with Python course here at OpenHub Project!

Bio

Hello,

My name is Andrea.

I am German and have been living in New Windsor, NY, since 2014. I have a degree in Business Information Systems (60% CS, 40% BA) from a college in Germany and have been working in IT for about 20 years in different positions and companies. My work experience includes application and web development, system administration, technical support, and social entrepreneurship amongst others. I love learning and teaching. In Germany I facilitated various computer learning projects with Middle School students and senior citizens, and other social activities as a leading organizer.

My current job is with Schoology, an EdTech Company in NYC, where I have worked as a Support Engineer (now in Senior position) for the past 4.5 years. I also volunteered with coding activities in local schools in Cornwall (through Code.org) and Newburgh (Girls Who Code), and I am very interested in improving learning opportunities and student engagement through the use of technology. My current passion is Artificial Intelligence / Machine learning, where I try to get up to speed and hope to pass on / share my acquired knowledge in the future with students of all ages.

In my spare time I am usually with my horse Gibson, or in the gym. I also love mountain biking, traveling, and cooking.

Bio

Hey everybody. I'm a website developer from Kingston, serving businesses in the Hudson Valley from local professionals and craftsmen to web agencies and mid-size businesses. My journey into World Wide Web technologies began in 1998. My battery of skills includes HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and Photoshop. In Content Management Systems, my favorite by far is Drupal, but I also have experience in WordPress, Zen Cart, Shopify, and Squarespace. I have written a custom ecommerce CMS from scratch, and maintain other custom CMSs for some of my client base.

Website development is rewarding, but not nearly as rewarding as high quality interactions and relationships with people. I have always been passionate about understanding the human experience and achieving clear and kind communication in all manner of relationships. This passion infuses my website development work in the ways of clear communication with clients, bringing marketing and user journey awareness to any website engineering project, and also in teaching website development. I have found increasing pleasure in analyzing the user experience aspect of website development, and how best to design for optimum honest and effective communication of a business' message to its niche market. And I find teaching at OpenHub rewarding because I enjoy empowering people to gain important skills for their personal business goals and livelihoods.
