Second Workforce Development Summit
Submitted by ericaindman on Tue, 05/24/2022 - 4:15pmTech is a hugely growing industry that creates more and more jobs every day. Openhub, in collaboration with the Newburgh Free Library, aims to bring tech to Hudson Valley and see Newburgh as a Workforce Development Hub for it. As technology becomes increasingly vital in our post-covid world, we notice too many people who don’t have tech skills they need to succeed in it. Through Openhub’s and the NFL’s many programs, workshops, trainings, and Workforce Development Summits, we hope to change that.
The second Workforce Development Summit was held on April 19th, featuring a keynote from Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson and a collaborative problem solving panel discussion! The goal of this summit was to have productive and insightful conversations about the workforce in Hudson Valley, jobs, and Manufacturing Technology.
A trained workforce brings manufacturers and employers need skilled workers, so why do we not have more programs to educate our population in the technological skills that they need to get jobs? How do you get needed experience for a job? What actions can we take now to increase job preparedness? Are certificates/credentials or college degrees better for earning?
All this and more was discussed at the second Workforce Development Summit during the keynote and panel. We hope you join our next gatherings and take a step into tech. Be part of the growing workforce development movement to educate, employ, and revolutionize Hudson Valley!
Keep up with the Openhub and Newburgh Free Library websites to make sure you don’t miss the next chance to meetup with like minded professionals, learn something new, expand your skills, and more.
