NEWBURGH, NY, May 18, 2024 – OpenHub, first time in collaboration with the Mid-Hudson Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), is excited to announce the 5th Annual Hudson Valley Youth Hackathon, scheduled for May 20, 2024, at the historic Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie, NY.

This Hackathon is the central part of the first ever Mid-Hudson CSTA’s Hudson Valley Digital Rally. This year's Hackathon theme, "Changing the Community: Digital Champions for Social Good," promises an inspiring day of innovation and collaboration for high school students across the region. We expect to see 8+ schools with 80+ students attending.

We are looking forward to empowering the youth with real life experience of intensive problem solving  in a collaborative setting. The challenge is designed to expose the high school students to real job experience in the tech field, and provide the advancement and empowerment with technology, design, startup-kind of decision making, in addition to team-work, presentation and communication skills. We are excited and proud to provide the Hackathon and the Startup pitching contest combined to the youth and teachers. We are grateful the regional CS teachers are introducing the idea of the hackathon to their students to show that coding and problem solving can be fun and a great opportunity to make new friends.

About the Hackathon: The Hudson Valley Youth Hackathon, now in its fifth year, aims to empower high school students by providing a dynamic environment where they can work alongside tech professionals to tackle real-world social challenges such as public transportation, economic development, health and wellness, and public safety, thereby creating tangible benefits for the local community.". Utilizing the TechStars Startup framework, participants will engage in a series of activities designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Hackathon Mission:

  • Inspire and empower youth with tech in an intense while supportive collaborative teamwork setting.
